Hawker Sea Hawk: Red Devils Display Team - Diecast Model Scale 1/72
Regular price £34.99 Save Liquid error (snippets/product-template line 131): Computation results in '-Infinity'%The Hawker Sea Hawk was widely regarded as both beautiful on the eye and also a joy to fly. Part of the transitional phase of rapid development of early jet aircraft, like many aircraft of the time, it had a relatively short service life. It saw action during the Suez crisis where it acquitted itself well in the ground attack role, but was eventually replaced by the Supermarine Scimitar. This model is in the livery of the highly respected and much missed Red Devils display team.

Background
The Hawker Sea Hurricane was created as a naval variant of the legendary RAF fighter Hurricane. Urgently needed in 1941 to escort convoys, regular Hurricanes were equipped with hooks and reinforced landing gear. The Mk.IIC version had an improved armament with four 20mm Hispanic guns and proved to be extremely effective against German long-range reconnaissance aircraft. Today, only a few examples have survived, which makes this model kit a special way to pay tribute to this historic aircraft.
Start your next model building project now and create your own Sea Hurricane! Order today and be amazed by the quality and details of this extraordinary kit.

Hawker’s Naval Fighters: Camel to Sea Harrier by Christopher Budgen
Regular price £30.00 Save Liquid error (snippets/product-template line 131): Computation results in '-Infinity'%In 1912, Tom Sopwith transitioned from running a flying school to manufacturing aircraft, leveraging his nautical interests to create designs purchased by Britain’s Royal Navy. The onset of the First World War solidified the Sopwith Aviation Company’s reputation with aircraft like the Sopwith Camel widely used onboard the ships of the day. After the war, cancellations of government orders forced Sopwith Aviation into liquidation, However, a new company, the HG Hawker Engineering Company, was quickly formed, having been named after Sopwith’s test pilot, Harry Hawker. Throughout the 1920s and 1930s, Hawker produced designs that continued to be purchased by the Royal Navy, being used on the early aircraft carriers as well as the larger vessels of the fleet. With the outbreak of the Second World War, the RN’s Fleet Air Arm found itself woefully unprepared for battle, having mainly biplanes and slow monoplanes with which to face the modern German fighters and bombers. As a temporary solution, Hawker adapted the Hurricane into the Sea Hurricane. Hawker later developed advanced piston-engine fighters like the Fury and its naval counterpart, the Sea Fury, which saw action during the Korean War and Suez Crisis in 1956. The Sea Fury was succeeded by Hawker’s first jet, the Sea Hawk, marking the Fleet Air Arm’s transition into the jet age. The Sea Hawk also served the Indian Navy during its conflicts with Pakistan. Hawker’s successful Hunter, although primarily for the RAF, was used by the Royal Navy for land-based operations. Meanwhile, Hawker’s next design, the ground breaking Harrier, was ordered as the Sea Harrier; it saw action during the Falklands War, and, in due course, in the conflict in the former Yugoslavia and in Iraq. From its earliest days then, the Hawker Aircraft Company has supplied winning designs to the Royal Navy and to many navies overseas, a feat that few other companies could match.

He has completed 140 combat missions and is one of the most decorated British military aviators currently flying today - our country's very own Maverick. Hazard Spectrum is the story of his service flying in some of the world's harshest combat zones, flying the deadliest planes technology has so far created and coming out the other end in one piece. With almost two decades of combat experience, Nathan rose to public fame as millions of television viewers tuned in to the BBC series 'Britain's Biggest Warship'. We watched in awe as he trained for, and completed, the first take-off and landing of the world's current best fighter aircraft, the F35, on the flight deck of HMS Queen Elizabeth. Hazard Spectrum details how his career led to that point - his graduation from student to teacher, from the iconic Sea Harrier - flying ops in Helmand Province and going in pursuit of Osama Bin Laden - to the cutting-edge Stealth Fighter of the future, Nathan has left no segment of the hazard spectrum unexplored.
Nathan Gray is an experienced high-risk Test Pilot and Fighter Pilot, flying with the Fleet Air Arm for over two decades, flying various aircraft including the Harrier, F-15, F-16, F-18, and F-35. His stellar career has taken him from the Californian coast of the United States to war zones in the Middle East. She then participated in Operation Pedestal and then went on to take part in the North African landings at the end of 1942.
HMS Victorious sailed to Pearl Harbor to join USS Saratoga's Battle Group, Task Force 14. She arrived and took up duties under Task Force 14 in the the Southwest Pacific on 17th May 1943. She embarked US aircraft and aircrew, and with the Saratoga swept the Solomon Islands. During that year this busy ship supported the US Pacific fleet on many operations usually carrying both British and US Wildcat fighters. HMS Victorious covered Russian convoys from January-March 1944, then took part in Operation 'Tungsten' air strike against the German battleship Tirpitz on 3 April 1944. After another refit she joined the British Eastern Fleet enroute to the Far East.

I joined to FLY NAVY: What happened next? by James M Milne
Regular price £9.99 Save Liquid error (snippets/product-template line 131): Computation results in '-Infinity'%What were the thoughts and feelings of my grandfather as an Artificer Engineer down in the Engine Room as on1 November 1914, in the half light of evening, HMS Glasgow raced towards the Magellan Straits escaping from the one sided Battle of Coronel. The author, despite intensive research will never know.
This lack of knowledge of his grandfathers career led the author to writing a record of 'what grandad did in the war' for his own three grandchildren. The record morphed into a tale of events, amusing and sometimes frightening, that occurred during a 32 career between 1960 and 1992. This period saw the Fleet Air Arm helicopter fleet go from piston to jet power and from 'kick the tyres - light the fires' to the advanced electronic suites that equip todays highly professional Fleet Air Arm aviators. In 1960 helicopter aircrew were as dedicated and professional, but a lack of sophistication in the aids available sometimes meant results were dependent upon experience and gut feeling.
There are many aviation books which cover specific topics or events, but few which span a Fleet Air Arm Observer's career. This book aims to fill that gap.
Historical context has been included in many of the events which the author took part, from Iraq first threatening Kuwait in 1960, the Borneo Confrontation, through to the Falklands campaign in 1982. Service in the Fleet Air Arm not only involved flying, but also non-flying appointments ashore and afloat. As this book demonstrates there was satisfaction and a lot of fun to be had in what may be described as more mundane jobs.

Technology has changed at a frightening pace since aircraft first took to the skies. During WW1 not only did the technology change, but also the way in which aircraft were used as all sides learned to understand the potential of this powerful new influence on the battlefield. 'Philip Bartlett's account is a unique and fascinating record of a pilot's life in the dawn of aerial warfare and, as history, of the first use of the bomber in war, strangely, by the Navy's aircraft.'

Jungle Commandos The Battle for Arakan, Burma 1945 By Lucy Betteridge-Dyson
Regular price £20.00 Sale price £17.50 Save 13%Drawing on unpublished first-hand accounts, this is a gripping history of the experiences of the Commandos and their unsung allies in one of the bloodiest battles of the Burma Campaign.
Following the battles of Kohima and Imphal in mid-1944, the tide was turning against the Imperial Japanese Army. By the end of that fateful year, the Allies were preparing to launch an offensive in the Arakan region of Burma, to deliver a knockout blow to the increasingly desperate Japanese 28th Army. This fascinating new history details the actions of 3 Commando Brigade, who would spearhead this attack in a series of daring amphibious landings into the depths of the Burmese jungle, culminating in the brutal fight for Hill 170.
They would be the only Commando Brigade to serve in the Far East, yet their story has never before been told in detail. With access to previously unseen primary sources, this book is the story of the men who volunteered for a fight against a fearless enemy, 5000 miles away from home in one of the most unforgiving environments in the world. Thrown into combat with limited jungle training and scant resources, it would be a baptism of fire, but the Commandos, alongside the brave men of the Indian and West African Divisions of XV Corps, would inflict a terrible defeat on an enemy once thought to be unbeatable.
Written by a granddaughter of a Commando veteran who fought at Arakan, this new book shines a light on a largely forgotten yet crucial battle of World War II.

Kamikaze Hunters. Fighting for the Pacific, 1945 By Will Iredale
Regular price £10.99 Save Liquid error (snippets/product-template line 131): Computation results in '-Infinity'%In May 1945, with victory in Europe established, the war was all but over. But on the other side of the world, the Allies were still engaged in a bitter struggle to control the Pacific. And it was then that the Japanese unleashed a terrible new form of warfare: the suicide pilots, or Kamikaze.
Drawing on meticulous research and unique personal access to the remaining survivors, Will Iredale follows a group of young men from the moment they joined up through their initial training to the terrifying reality of fighting against pilots who, in the cruel last summer of the war, chose death rather than risk their country's dishonourable defeat and deliberately flew their planes into Allied aircraft carriers. A story of courage, valour and dogged determination, The Kamikaze Hunters is a gripping account of how a few brave young men helped to ensure lasting peace.

REVIEWS
Great Taste Awards 2023
“An unusual mix of juice and brandy makes this spirit quite unique. This is a very versatile drink which could be imbibed as an aperitif or digestif, before or after a meal. It could be drunk long with a soda or by itself with ice. Simply delicious.
An exquisite product of the highest order. The apple shines throughout with soft caramel notes which evoke the flavour of tarte tatin. We simply couldn't find fault with this product, or stop going back for more.
The Daily Telegraph
‘Scrumptious’ ‘A gratifyingly versatile blend of apple juice and Somerset Cider Brandy.’
Malt Review
“On the nose: Really clean and fresh. Red apple juice, heather honey, a light touch of caramel. Orange zest and copper pennies. Very nicely married with the spirit – nothing harsh whatsoever.
In the mouth: Pristine again, and what this has that pommeau often tends not to is a lovely fresh brightness of acidity that just pierces the sweetness and lifts everything up. Apple and golden raisin. Mango slices and Dundee cake. Just such a drinkable and fresh take on this style and again the weighting of juice and spirit is delightful.”
Crafty Nectar
“It pours a bright, burnished bronze and whilst still a little swirl reveals some pronounced ‘legs’. The aroma is sweet and aged, toffee apple and Christmas cake, but at the same time the acid in the Kingston Black juice lifts everything to give the impression of a light, freshness. In the mouth it is more of the same, the spices and sultanas from the Christmas cake almost seem to evaporate off the surface of the liquid and fill your nose from within. There’s no harshness or alcoholic note, just velvety, sweet goodness.”
