Cartoonist 'Steev' humorously captures the great spirit of the aircraft and crews of the Royal Navy and Fleet Air Arm.

Steev (aka aeroengineer extraordinaire Steve George) is a great supporter of Navy Wings (he now works as a volunteer in our hangar) and all things Fleet Air Arm. We are very grateful that he has allowed us to use his fantastic artwork and a proportion of the proceeds will go to a charity of which he is a Trustee, the Fleet Air Arm Memorial Church Trust, to facilitate their new memorial walkway.

56 Sea Harrier's were built for the Royal Navy. They were first introduced in 1978 and retired in March 2006. The design of the aircraft is optimised for air-to-air combat with secondary missions of surveillance, air-to-sea and air-to-ground attack.

The McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II served the Royal Navy's Fleet Air Arm as one of their primary fleet air defence aircraft. It was intended that these aircraft would operate from the decks of four aircraft carriers; Eagle and Ark Royal and two others, CVA-01 and CVA-02, which were never built.

The Fairey Swordfish is a biplane torpedo bomber designed by the Fairey Aviation Company. Originating in the early 1930s, the Swordfish, nicknamed "Stringbag", was operated by the Royal Navy's Fleet Air Arm.

Despite being obsolete by 1939, the Swordfish achieved some spectacular successes during the war. Notable events included sinking one battleship and damaging two others of the Regia Marina (the Italian Navy) during the Battle of Taranto, and the famous attack on the Bismarck, which contributed to her eventual demise. By the end of the war, the Swordfish held the distinction of having caused the destruction of a greater tonnage of Axis shipping than any other Allied aircraft. The Swordfish remained in front-line service until VE Day, having outlived multiple aircraft that had been intended to replace it in service.

The Fairey Firefly can be traced back to pair of specifications issued by the British Air Ministry in 1938, calling for new naval fighter designs. Designed to the contemporary Fleet Air Arm concept of a two-seat fleet reconnaissance/fighter, the pilot and observer were positioned at separate stations. In flight, the Firefly was superior in terms of both performance and firepower to its predecessor, the Fairey Fulmar.
