Unusual feature items for display or desk. Fascinating complexity

The whole unit rotates in a very satisfying way on its hand turned wooden plinth as do some of the revealed internal parts.

The standard model is a DGI while the Mk 48 is a Gyro Magnetic compass,

A dramatic combination of graceful curves and industrial ruggedness softened by the inclusion of the wooden mounted skeleton clock. We haven't been able to determine precisely what the component is (possibly a fuel port cover?) or which aircraft it is from. It seems most likely to be from a 60's or 70's British naval jet aircraft.
