The late and much lamented Surgeon Captain Rick Jolly OBE compiled this classic and definitive book during his service as a Royal Marines Doctor. For this, among many other things, we owe him a debt of gratitude.

Just what he wanted

For some reason many people who meet my husband presume he is ex-navy, saying 'don't try to deny it,' until the point where he no longer denies it even though he has never served. He has been looking for a book like this for years. I came across it when I read Surgeon Captain Rick Jolly's Obit recently. I searched for the book and was delighted that Navy Wings had copies for sale, as I support their preservation of those wonderful aircraft.

'A very useful and sensibly arranged book on a neglected subject,' he says. It brought a smile to his face, which I found very welcome. I look forward to browsing the book, but at present it is his treat. By the way, being contrary he stared at the Z section and is working his was to the front.

The book is hard back and properly priced and the profit will be well used.

PS there is a book on what makes a good army officer, I wonder is there a similar book on what makes a good naval officer? My husband is sure puzzled about being mistaken for one, though he takes it as a considerable compliment

At last I can understand it all

Despite 14 years in the Medical Branch as an RNR doctor including minesweeping ,general duties in Portsmouth,HMS Osprey and HMS Heron with overseas training in Malta and Gibraltar I never felt I ever came to grips with”jackspeak”.
Having seen the size of this volume makes me feel better about that; what an encyclopaedic effort! What a history of the Andrew. Of course I knew of Rick Jolly I was recalled to service in 1982 in RNH Gibraltar when he was in the Falklands ,though our paths never crossed—what a shame. I will enjoy dipping into this tome whenever life gets dull
