HMS Invincible was launched on 3 May 1977 as the 7th ship to carry the name.
She was the lead ship of her class of three light carriers.
Originally designated as an anti-submarine warfare carrier, she gained fame during the Falklands War when, fitted with a ski ramp, she played host to Sea Harriers and Sea Kings. Invincible was also deployed in the Balkans and the Iraq War. She was decommissioned in 2005.[5
