Lt Cdr Bruce Vibert DSC was a Swordfish pilot who saw active service in the Battle of the Atlantic and the Arctic convoys (during which he despatched U674).
He had a lifetime passion for this remarkable aircraft and was a great supporter of Navy Wings.
There are only 2 flying Fairey Swordfish in the world and both have their home with Navy Wings at RNAS Yeovilton. Regarded as hopelessly obsolete at the beginning of WWII, it emerged at the end of the conflict as a legendary icon. It acquitted itself well in all the theatres, in particular on anti-submarine duty in the Battle of the Atlantic and with the Arctic convoys, but also in such actions as Taranto and the sinking of the Bismarck. An extraordinary record for an extraordinary aircraft.
Package includes a neatly framed swatch of Swordfish linen signed by Bruce Vibert and a picture of Bruce in service.
Picture frame size 7.5"x 7.5"
