The legend that is the Fairey Swordfish LS326 (MkII) HAS NOW BEEN REPLACED by W5856, the oldest flying example and another of the aircraft carefully maintained in the hangar here at RNAS Yeovilton. Most of her wartime career was spent in the Mediterranean. This is an accurate diecast model of a real life icon who earned her laurels flying over the white horses that concealed a deadly threat to our survival.

Ship's Bells

While not being on the scale of Big Ben, these are very substantial, heavyweight bells and have been supplied to world navies and shipping companies as well as pleasure boaters and home owners. Each is manufactured in the finest age old tradition - sand-cast solid brass turned and polished to an immaculate sheen. These are very solid and very sonorous bells, redolent of those on ships on which you may have served. They are unlacquered so they don't discolour, but will develop an attractive and authentic patina over time.

This range of bells is also traditionally made in solid brass, but to a standard weight yet still with a loud and distinct tone. Quayside bells have a slightly smaller, triangular mounting (see image).

The Supermarine Walrus (AKA Seagull) was a versatile multi-role aircraft, much loved by her crews for her ability to get them home and much loved by those pilot's they rescued. This is a highly detailed collectors model.

A superb aircraft that arrived at the wrong time to fulfil the destiny of its promise. Derived from the success of the Mosquito, this wooden based aircraft was much loved by Captain Eric 'Winkle' Brown for its performance in all aspects. Sadly, it was only in production for 5 years (1945-1950) before it became another casualty of the jet age.

This beautifully detailed diecast model comes in a smart presentation box.

Formed in 1941 with a complement of Fulmars, 809 NAS and was involved in actions on the Russian convoys and the Mediterranean and later, flying Seafires, such operations as Pedestal, Avalanche, Torch and Dragoon before being deployed to engage in the recovery of Rangoon and British Malaya and Sumatra. 

After the war they transitioned to Sea Hornets and then Sea Venoms in time to be involved in the Suez Crisis.

Later they converted to Buccaneers (including for the British Honduras/Belize 'incident').  and then, ultimately, decommissioned in 1978. The Falklands War saw 809 briefly recommissioned to fly Sea Harriers to great effect. Decommissioned in December 1982, 809 is now, once again, an operational Naval Air Squadron flying the formidable F-35B.

A detailed diecast replica of the powerhouse that is the Hawker Sea Fury, replete in 804 NAS livery.

The Sea Fury represented the last front line piston engine fighter of the Royal Navy and the pinnacle of propeller/piston engineering and performance before the carrier borne jet era commenced.

Very fast, agile, versatile and capable of carrying a decisive payload, the Sea Fury was used to great effect in the Korean War (where one shot down a MiG15) and is one of the great (and now rare) icons of British aviation.

The Airco DH4 was a British two seat bomber aircraft of WWI. Designed by the great Geoffrey de Havilland (hence 'DH') it was the first British two-seat light bomber to have an effective defensive armament. It entered service with the RFC in March 1917. 

It had a forward firing 0.303 in Vickers machine gun for the pilot, an 0.303 in Lewis gun for the observer and was capable of carrying over 460lb's of bombs.

A diecast model of the classic vintage RN trainer, DH82a Tiger Moth XL717, now on display at the Fleet Air Arm Museum Yeovilton  

The De Havilland Dominie was essentially a Dragon Rapide Mk I, a twin-engined bi-plane which had been introduced in the 1930s as a highly successful short-range 6-8 seater passenger aircraft. Production continued during WWII of an aircraft whose main purpose was as a navigation trainer, personnel carrier as well as an air ambulance and was first delivered to the Royal Navy in 1940. Powered by two 150kW D H Gipsy Queen engines, it had a top speed of 157 mph (250 km) and a range of 575 miles (920 km). It accommodated a pilot, and radio operator and six passengers.

This 1:72 scale replica is as used by Fleet Air Arm at RNAS Culdrose in Cornwall. Decorated in all-over silver, the leading edge of the wing tips and the rudder are painted in fluorescent red. Its military identity number is printed along the fuselage, round the nose and on each of the underwings. Note the addition on this model of an air-speed windmill positioned on the upper left wing.

Although the wartime Dominies were all retired after the conflict, there were still some to be seen flying well into the 1950s and several are still preserved in aircraft museums at home and abroad, many still in flying condition.

The Lockheed F-35 is an advanced stealth fifth generation fighter combining speed and superb agility. There are three variants; F-35A, B and C. The F-35A CTOL (Conventional Take Off and Landing) and has four internal weapons stations in two weapons bays plus three optional external weapons stations. The F-35B STOVL (Short Take Off Vertical Landing) variant while the F-35C is a CV (Carrier Variant). The F-35 will replace the USAF A-10 and F-16, the F/A-18 for the USN and the F/A-18 and AV-8B Harrier for the USMC.

F-35B Lightning II ZM149 “015” (c/n BK-15) piloted by Sqn Ldr Will of the RAF No 207 Squadron from RAF Marham completed the first successful landing onboard HMS Prince of Wales on June 8, 2021. This was the inaugural landing of a fixed-wing aircraft on the Prince of Wales. The Prince of Wales is the second Royal Navy aircraft carrier and was conducting sea trials commencing on June 7, 2021. ZM149 will take part in the sea acceptance trials by testing the vessel’s ability to launch and recover aircraft

The Hawker Sea Hawk was widely regarded as both beautiful on the eye and also a joy to fly. Part of the transitional phase of rapid development of early jet aircraft, like many aircraft of the time, it had a relatively short service life. It saw action during the Suez crisis where it acquitted itself well in the ground attack role, but was eventually replaced by the Supermarine Scimitar. This model is in the livery of the highly respected and much missed Red Devils display team. 

The bi-plane is decorated in silver with black, white and yellow markings. Its Royal Navy numbers W5856 and A2A are printed in black and white respectively with A2A featuring again in white on the underside of the upper wings. The many struts, spars and braces, which gave it the wartime nickname ‘Stringbag’ are also painted silver. The upper fuselage and forward section horizontal stabilisers are black, the torpedoes are grey with red nose cone, propeller tips and spinner yellow, engine cowl and exhaust pipes bronze, cockpit interior grey-green and fuselage bands dark red and dark blue. Additional decoration includes a black and white horizontal section on the tail fin, black and yellow wheels and the RAF roundel on both sides of the fuselage.

The Tiger Moth was a 1930's designed primary trainer and it's long service record is a testament to its effectiveness and the esteem with which it was held. Ultimately replaced by the Chipmunk in the 50's, it was put to diverse uses including maritime surveillance. Sold to many military services around the world, the Tiger Moth is still widely used privately. These are collectors aircraft and beautifully detailed down to the bracing wires.

XL717 currently resides in the Fleet Air Arm Museum at Yeovilton.
