The venerable, extraordinary and much loved Fairey Swordfish - one of the unsung heroes of WWII. Regarded as obsolete at the onset of hostilities it went on to outlive aircraft designed to replace it and provided sterling service in all theatres throughout the war. Perfectly suited to the demands of warfare at sea and, in particular, service on MAC ships or small escort carriers, it sank a greater tonnage of enemy shipping than any other British aircraft. It could cope with almost any role it was asked to perform and could carry a ton of ordnance which was greater than the twin engine Blenheim bomber. We maintain the last two flying examples in the world (W5856 & LS326) here at our hangar at RNAS Yeovilton.

A Swordfish marked with circled stars was not a common or expected sight, but those markings were to avoid confusion during Operation Torch - the invasion of North Africa in 1942.

This is a highly detailed, 1/72 scale, diecast model of Fairey Swordfish MKI V444B of 833 Squadron. Once again, an example of the Fleet Air Arm getting stuck into an action where many people are unaware of their involvement. 

A rare livery and a rare model.

These models are part of a Limited Edition of just 1000 of these models available worldwide.

The legend that is the Fairey Swordfish LS326 (MkII) HAS NOW BEEN REPLACED by W5856, the oldest flying example and another of the aircraft carefully maintained in the hangar here at RNAS Yeovilton. Most of her wartime career was spent in the Mediterranean. This is an accurate diecast model of a real life icon who earned her laurels flying over the white horses that concealed a deadly threat to our survival.

The range now includes:

the Fairey Swordfish Mk.I W5856 and Mk.II LS326, both of which are situated in our hangar at the Navy Wings Heritage Centre. These models feature a length of 37cm and a wingspan of 46cm, at a scale of 1/27 from the actual aircraft.

The elegant Supermarine Seafire MkIIIC (880 Sqn HMS Implacable 1945) is 1/28 scale and has a wingspan of 48.3cm. 

Other models available: Westland Sea King (SAR, Jungly and Rescue), de Havilland Sea Vixen (our own XP924), Hawker Sea Fury T20, Agusta Merlin, Blackburn Buccaneer and Royal Navy Canberra. These wooden models are individually hand made and complete with the tiniest details of equipment and livery.
