The Westland Wyvern was a British single-seat, multi-role strike aircraft designed for carrier use. It served in the 1950s and saw active service in the 1956 Suez crisis. Production Wyverns were powered by a turboprop engine driving two contra-rotating propellers. Heavily armed, it was fitted with 4 x 20mm cannon and could also carry rockets, bombs and aerial torpedoes.

An aircraft with a troubled service history, it had a short service life due to the increasing move towards use of jet aircraft.

The Hawker Sea Hawk is a British single-seat jet fighter operated by the Fleet Air Arm. Built by Hawker aircraft and Armstrong Whitworth Aircraft, it drew on earlier designs of Hawker piston engined aircraft, it was their first move into the world of jet propulsion. 

Following acceptance by the Royal Navy, the Sea Hawk proved to be a reliable and sturdy workhorse and much loved by aircrew. A considerable number were exported and were operated from aircraft carriers in Dutch and Indian service. The last operational Sea Hawks, operated by the Indian Navy, were retired in 1983.

Derived from the success of the Mosquito, this wooden based aircraft was much loved by Captain Eric 'Winkle' Brown for its performance in all aspects. Sadly, it was only in production for 5 years (1945-1950) before it became another casualty of the jet age.

Nonetheless, the Chipmunk is an extremely capable aircraft and is cherished in the memories of the 1000's of fliers who cut their teeth in the cockpit of this very pilot friendly trainer.

This kit authentically recreates the FM-1 featuring four machine guns with both the U.S. Navy and Royal Navy markings and one sitting pilot figure.

The deployment of the Grumman F4F-3 Wildcat, which was one of the main U.S. Navy carrier-based fighter, started in 1940, and in 1942, the F4F-4 was introduced into service. This aircraft employed a foldable wing for efficient use on flight decks while 12.7mm machine guns were increased from four to six. With its bullet proofing, rigid fuselage and its pilots' tactics, the F4F-F was more than equal to the Zero fighter. Although the F4F-F gave its position to aircraft equipped with 2,000hp-class engine such as the F6F Hellcat and F4U Corsair after WWII onward, this aircraft, which was suitable for use on small flight decks, constructed its presence as the aircraft to be deployed on escort carrier and to enhance air force. While the Grumman focused on the F6F production, Eastern Air Lines took over the production of the F4F-4 variant which was called as the FM and its first production variant FM-1 was mostly the same as the F4F-4 except for decreased (from six to four) machine guns. The Wildcat was introduced to the Royal Navy and was known as the Martlet (fictitious bird often seen in the English coats of arms). This aircraft continued to see action as anti-submarine patrol and convoy escort until the end of war.

One of the most capable piston-engine fighter aircraft ever produced and the last to enter service with Britain’s Fleet Air Arm, the Hawker Sea Fury represented the pinnacle of piston-engine fighter design. Introduced after the end of the Second World War, the Sea Fury would see combat against some of the early jet fighters during the Korean War, where it would perform extremely well.

The first deck landing trials commenced in the winter of 1946. The Sea Fury would remain as the Fleet Air Arms principle single-seater fighter until 1953, when it was then replaced by the jet-powered Hawker Sea Hawk. 

The aircraft also saw service with a number of overseas air arms, in a variety of operational roles, including strike fighter, trainer and high-speed target towing. The aircraft also became a popular choice in the world of air racing, where the brute power and sheer speed of this magnificent aircraft saw it victorious in countless competitions.

The Westland Wasp is a small 1960s British turbine-powered, shipboard anti-submarine helicopter. Produced by Westland helicopters, it came from the same project as the British Army Scout and both are derived from the earlier piston engine skeeter. It fulfilled the requirement of the Royal Navy for a helicopter small enough to land on the deck of a frigate and carry a useful load of ASW and air to surface weaponry.

N.B. Models of the Wasp are very unusual.

The Tiger Moth was a 1930's designed primary trainer and it's long service record is a testament to its effectiveness and the esteem with which it was held. Ultimately replaced by the Chipmunk in the 50's, it was put to diverse uses including maritime surveillance. Sold to many military services around the world, the Tiger Moth is still widely used privately. These are collectors aircraft and beautifully detailed down to the bracing wires.

XL717 currently resides in the Fleet Air Arm Museum at Yeovilton.

The Sea Vixen was the aircraft of British naval aviators for 20 years and the first in the world to have its Arrow wings which were foldable for use on aircraft carriers. In 1964, the Fleet Air Arm introduced FAW 2, a much-improved version of the Sea Vixen equipped with modern air-to-air missiles.

The bi-plane is decorated in silver with black, white and yellow markings. Its Royal Navy numbers W5856 and A2A are printed in black and white respectively with A2A featuring again in white on the underside of the upper wings. The many struts, spars and braces, which gave it the wartime nickname ‘Stringbag’ are also painted silver. The upper fuselage and forward section horizontal stabilisers are black, the torpedoes are grey with red nose cone, propeller tips and spinner yellow, engine cowl and exhaust pipes bronze, cockpit interior grey-green and fuselage bands dark red and dark blue. Additional decoration includes a black and white horizontal section on the tail fin, black and yellow wheels and the RAF roundel on both sides of the fuselage.

The legend that is the Fairey Swordfish LS326 (MkII) HAS NOW BEEN REPLACED by W5856, the oldest flying example and another of the aircraft carefully maintained in the hangar here at RNAS Yeovilton. Most of her wartime career was spent in the Mediterranean. This is an accurate diecast model of a real life icon who earned her laurels flying over the white horses that concealed a deadly threat to our survival.

The Airco DH4 was a British two seat bomber aircraft of WWI. Designed by the great Geoffrey de Havilland (hence 'DH') it was the first British two-seat light bomber to have an effective defensive armament. It entered service with the RFC in March 1917. 

It had a forward firing 0.303 in Vickers machine gun for the pilot, an 0.303 in Lewis gun for the observer and was capable of carrying over 460lb's of bombs.

The BAe Harrier is a British single-seat V / STOL fighter, attack and reconnaissance aircraft with a duralumin, half-shell structure. The origins of Harrier's construction can be found in 1957, when Lord Sydney Camm of Hawker Aircraft and Dr. Stanley Hooker of Bristol Siddeley Engines started the construction of a tactical aircraft using the latest turbo-fan engine from Bristol plants, then known as BS.53. It was specially adapted to the vertical thrust vector ensuring the vertical take-off of a fixed-wing aircraft. Engine exhaust gases were directed to four staggered nozzles placed in pairs at the front and rear of the fuselage. The range of rotation of the nozzles exceeded 90 degrees, which allowed the exhaust gases to be directed directly rearward in normal flight, vertically downward for take-off and landing, or to any angle during the transition phase. Around the engine, Camm constructed a compact, conventional, high-wing metal airframe. In the forward part of the fuselage there was a one-person cabin, next to which there were two fixed, stationary air inlets for engines with a semicircular cross-section. The two-wheeled main and one-wheeled undercarriages are built in tandem in the central axis of the fuselage. The first of the six prototypes took off for the first time on October 21, 1960. After less than a year, a complete transition was made from vertical climb to horizontal flight and hover again. In February 1965, the UK government ordered six test aircraft. These were the first examples to be given the name Harrier. Apart from Great Britain, the only user of the standard Harrier aircraft is the Spanish Navy, where the aircraft are known as the Matador. To date, a dozen or so versions of the Harrier aircraft have been produced. Chronologically, the first was the Harrier GR.1 (an attack aircraft that entered service in 1969). Version T.3 was created quickly, i.e. a two-person school version of Harrier GR.1. The next version is the Harrier GR.3, which is the most modern assault version of this aircraft equipped with Pegasus 11 Mk 103 engines. Since 1978, the version marked as Sea Harrier has also been produced, the FRS.MK.1 model of which distinguished itself during the Falklands war. in 1982 as a fighter attack aircraft. As a result of the experience gained from this war, the FA.2 version was created, which has better avionics, including a great Blue Vixen radar, greater payload and can use a wider range of weapons.
