Your chance to own a very rare part of an exceptional aircraft.
The English Electric Lightning is a British interceptor/fighter that served from 1960 to 1988. It is capable of a top speed above Mach 2. It was operated by the RAF and the Kuwait and Royal Saudi air forces.
Unusually, its two Rolls Royce Avon turbojets were stacked vertically, one over the other within the fuselage. The Lightning was designed and developed as an interceptor to defend the airfields of the British 'V Bomber' strategic nuclear force from attack by anticipated future Soviet nuclear-armed supersonic bombers.
Even in comparison with contemporary aircraft, the Lightning has an exceptional overall speed (Mach 2.2) and rate of climb and an extraordinary ceiling in excess of 80,000 feet. Pilots have described flying it as "being saddled to a skyrocket".
It is an example of exceptional British engineering.
Only 337 were built, so these control sticks are very rare.
Base diameter 11cm
