This is THE definitive work on the histories of every Naval Air Squadron (including Australian, Dutch and Canadian units using the 700/800 series) starting from the introduction of the 800 series squadron numbering series in 1933 when it was the Fleet Air Arm of the Royal Air Force

A huge amount of work has gone into revising and updating the 1994 edition using a miscellany of sources: Museum and National Archives; Squadron and Flight diaries; Navy Lists; Flying Log Books; aircraft records; reference works; photographic records, contemporary newspaper reports and the magazines, websites and reports of aviation historical societies. Much of the information has never been previously published.

This is a remarkable labour of love with something for anyone with an interest in the Fleet Air Arm.

Almost 500 lavishly illustrated pages.

A Definitive Work

I wondered whether the book would live up to what the description said, I need not have done so!
This is a fact-dense encyclopaedia of all things Fleet Air Arm, however it also contains countless high-quality and well described photographs. There are fascinating sections which should satisfy the most demanding 'dark blue' aviation enthusiast.
It is quite hefty and my copy escaped from its packaging on delivery, fortunately the book was wrapped in bubble wrap as well and missed my foot when it landed...
Yes, it's pricey, but I cannot fault it and it lives within easy reach of my desk for when I need a FAA hit. Highly recommended.

Comprehensive Reference Book

This volume is an extremely comprehensive reference work, full of detail for anybody who needs to research the history of a particular squadron or other unit.
Inevitably, for some squadrons the history will be far more detailed than for others but they are always comprehensive, detailing the aircraft types in use and locations involved. All pages are generously illustrated with photographs from across the years.
Details are given, not just in squadron or unit order but also alphabetically by warship name, listing the units and aircraft types carried on each. Then, further listings include shore establishments by geographical location, giving a short history of each base.
In summary, whatever piece of Fleet Air Arm history you are trying to research, this book must be a good starting point.

Informative & detailed

This is a very fine (weighty) tome. Very informative and detailed. Presentation wise it's a very handsome book, well laid out and illustrated. This has a well earned space in my reference library.

Glad you like them. We have more items featuring aircraft components coming on line soon.
